I have been a pastoral counselor since 1990, having received my MS from Loyola College in Baltimore, and my certification from the National Board of Certified Counselors in that year. I am one of the founding partners of the Brookland Pastoral Center, and am currently the secretary of the Board of Directors. My experience has been primarily in work with individual clients who are depressed, who are in mid-life or other transitions in their lives, or who have family-of-origin or codependency issues to confront. I have been an instructor and co-leader in the Adult Children of Dysfunctional Families therapy workshops offered by the Brookland Pastoral Center. I have a mild hearing impairment, which enables me to bring a special sensitivity to my work with clients with physical handicaps. In addition to my counseling, I work full time as a systems analyst with an economic consulting firm, which contributes to my understanding of the issues involved in professional and career stresses. Because of my dual work schedule, my counseling hours are in the evenings and on Saturday mornings. I can be contacted directly at scihlar@BPCcounseling.com and also may be reached by leaving a message at 202.526.4445 ext. 702. |
