I take a holistic approach that incorporates mind, body, and spirit. I believe it's important to integrate life meaning into counseling. I respect all faith backgrounds (including none), work within personal belief frameworks, and have appreciation for alternative paths as well as mainstream religions. I'll work with you to set goals and the proper pacing of therapy. Therapy is a collaboration, as ultimately the power to change rests within you. I emphasize unconditional positive regard, respect, a safe and caring therapeutic relationship, individual strengths, and taking control over choices. I listen and adjust methods to meet your needs. I utilize a variety of techniques, including cognitive behavioral, existential, and homework assignments as agreed upon. I utilize meditative/mindfulness approaches for awareness and relaxation. I like working with a variety of presenting issues including depression, spiritual needs, life adjustments, anxiety, trauma, and chronic mental illness. I have a Masters of Clinical Community Counseling and a post-graduate Certificate in Spiritual and Existential Counseling, both from Johns Hopkins University. When not seeing therapy clients, I also help to manage a day program for the chronically mentally ill in Baltimore, MD. My earlier career experience in the high tech and government sectors helps me to understand the daily challenges of clients currently working in those industries.
