Marcia Hinkle, MS, LPC, NCC

My favorite metaphor for life is 'journey' -- sometimes we know exactly where we are going and how we want to get there. At other times, we feel lost, in need of some new maps or directions, burdened by our baggage, wishing for a guide or companion.

I believe the counseling process is about helping you on your journey when you need that extra encouragement, support, guidance, challenge -- helping you make new maps, find new paths to your destination – and enjoy the view along the way.

I work with individuals, couples, and groups; clinical areas include depression, anxiety, grief and loss, family of origin problems, relational conflict and career concerns.

I have specialized training and experience with gay and lesbian concerns, adult children of aging parents, the challenges facing the blended family, clergy, and those in the performing and visual arts.

I have been a therapist since 1992. I received my Masters of Science in Pastoral Counseling from Neumann College, Aston, PA, and completed post-graduate work at Loyola College and West Chester University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in DC and Maryland, as well as a National Certified Counselor. I follow the Standards of Ethics for Counseling held by the Board of National Certified Counselors.

Along with my counseling practice, I am a retreat and workshop leader, frequently incorporating drama therapy techniques, film clips, and music into my presentation. I have worked for hospitals, nursing homes and universities in staff education; for clergy and for churches (both locally and at the regional level), and for social service agencies.
