Lisa Joan Reardon, LICSW

Sometimes when we’re in pain or working hard to change ourselves, we can’t find the answers we are searching for. Perhaps this describes you. Do you want to feel better? Are there changes you want to make? Do you sometimes just not feel like yourself? When you feel very different from other people, it's hard to feel good about yourself. When you think no one would like you if they really knew you, it's very likely that you don't like yourself.

When we have upsetting experiences as children or as adults, we may have a hard time resolving them. The stresses and demands of life keep us from being able to address our needs and to heal. Over time, unresolved hurts cause problems with our functioning in the world in whatever role we have whether student, employee, parent, or other. The stress affects our physical and mental health. Our basic beliefs about ourselves impact our ability to love and to receive the love and support we need.

I can help.  I specialize in helping people heal from child abuse. I can help you understand yourself, feel better, and have more satisfying relationships. Give me a call or send me an email. I'd be happy to talk to you.

The therapy I provide treats low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, dissociation, codependency, and unhealthy behavior patterns among other things. I have experience and skills in exploring family-of-origin issues, resolving depression, alleviating anxiety, and in dealing with trauma. I use EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and The Solution Method along with respectful listening and interaction to help you resolve past hurts, understand yourself better, and make the changes you want to make.

Even though not a pastoral counselor by training, I have my office at Brookland Pastoral Center because I am aware of the importance of spirituality in a person’s life as it has been in my own. Spirituality includes a person’s deeply held beliefs and values and his or her relationship to the things in life that cannot be seen or measured. I work with people who are aware of their spirituality and participate in religious services as well as those who do not focus on that part of their lives.
