Heather Hanko, MA, NCC

Healthy, meaningful relationships are essential to living a fulfilling life.  I believe that the therapeutic relationship can be a forum for personal growth and exploration. Ultimately, your work will have a positive impact on your relationship with others. Individuals seek therapy for many reasons including challenging relationships, struggles related to disability or ongoing illness, internal conflicts, and many other concerns unique to each person.

I respect and honor that each individual brings a set of emotional, spiritual, physical, intellectual, and cultural qualities to the therapeutic relationship.  Your story is very important to me. My goal as your therapist is to be physically and emotionally present during our scheduled time, listen and engage in a way that is nurturing, and communicate my faith in your ability to grow.

I am a professional counselor and received my graduate degree (M.A.) in Counseling from Marymount University.  I am a nationally certified counselor and practice in DC as a graduate level counselor.  I am a member of the American Counseling Association as well as other more specialized professional associations. My approach is primarily interpersonal; however, I borrow from diverse theoretical orientations. I offer counseling in the form of individual, group and family therapy.

My special interests include, but are not limited to, people with physical and intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and the needs of caretakers.   Please contact me by phone or email.  I can be reached at 202-526-4445 extension 711 or by email at hhanko@BPCcounseling.com .
